Frequently Asked Questions on AISTATS 2027 Submissions

1. What are the main submission deadlines?
   All deadlines are at 23:59 Anywhere on Earth (AoE).
   - Abstract submission: Tuesday, September 29, 2026
   - Full paper submission, including all supplementary material: Tuesday, October 6, 2026
   - Reviews and the AI review released to authors: Monday, November 16, 2026
   - Author–reviewer discussion: November 23–December 3, 2026
   - Decision notifications: Wednesday, January 20, 2027
   - Conference: May 3–6, 2027, in Montreal, Canada

2. When will the OpenReview submission site open?
   Submissions are accepted through OpenReview https://openreview.net/group?id=aistats.org/AISTATS/2027/Conference. We will announce soon the date on which the site will start accepting submissions.

3. I missed the abstract submission deadline. Can I still submit a full paper?
   No. An abstract must be submitted by the abstract deadline for the corresponding full paper to be considered.

4. Is there a separate supplementary-material deadline?
   No. All supplementary material must be submitted by the full paper deadline on October 6, 2026. It may be appended to the main submission PDF or uploaded separately as a single PDF or ZIP archive.

5. What are the page limits?
   Initial submissions are limited to eight pages of main text. Camera-ready papers are limited to nine pages of main text. References, the AI Use Statement, the reproducibility checklist, and additional appendices do not count toward these limits.

6. Which citation style should I use?
   Initial submissions may use either author–year or numeric citations, provided that the chosen style is used consistently throughout the paper. Accepted papers must use author–year citations in the camera-ready version.

7. Can the author list change after the abstract deadline?
   No. The author list is final at the abstract submission deadline. Authors cannot be added or removed after that deadline, including after acceptance and during the camera-ready phase. The author order may be changed after acceptance.

8. Can I revise the title or abstract after the abstract deadline?
   Only minor corrections are permitted between the abstract and full paper deadlines. Major changes to the title or abstract may result in desk rejection.

9. What are the submission quotas?
   No author may appear on more than 12 AISTATS 2027 submissions.
   An author who does not have at least one paper accepted at ICLR, ICML, NeurIPS, or AISTATS may appear on at most three submissions. Eligibility is determined using papers accepted by the abstract submission deadline and recorded in the author's OpenReview profile.

10. What happens if a quota is exceeded?
    Excess submissions will be flagged during the abstract-submission period. If a quota is still exceeded at the full paper deadline, excess submissions will be randomly desk-rejected until every author is within the applicable quota.

11. Must every submission nominate a reviewer?
    Yes. Each submission must nominate one of its authors as a reciprocal reviewer for AISTATS 2027. The nominee should have research experience at least equivalent to that of a second-year PhD student in machine learning, statistics, or a related field, as well as an appropriate publication record in the relevant research area.

12. What if none of the authors can be nominated?
    An exemption may be requested in the submission form and must be justified. Exemptions are granted only in exceptional circumstances. An unjustified exemption request will be treated as a missing nomination.

13. What are the responsibilities of a nominated reviewer?
    Nominated reviewers must submit complete, timely, high-quality reviews and participate in the discussion phase. Failure to fulfil these responsibilities may result in desk rejection of the submission for which the reviewer was nominated and potentially the reviewer's other submissions.
    Authors serving as reviewers will not receive access to the reviews of their own submissions until they have completed all assigned reviews.

14. May reviewers use generative AI to write reviews?
    No. Reviewers may not delegate their judgment or critique to an LLM, generate their reviews with an LLM, or enter confidential submission content into non-privacy-compliant tools. Violations may lead to sanctions, including desk rejection of the reviewer's own submissions.

15. May authors use generative AI for research or writing?
    Yes, provided that the use is disclosed as required and that the authors take full responsibility for the submission. LLMs and other AI systems cannot be listed as authors.

16. What is the AI Use Statement?
    Every submission must contain an AI Use Statement explaining how generative AI tools were used. It must appear immediately before the references, and it does not count toward the page limit.
    If no generative AI tools were used, the statement must say so. Authors must also disclose their use of generative AI in the OpenReview submission form.

17. What happens if the AI Use Statement is missing?
    A submission without an AI Use Statement will be desk-rejected.

18. Which uses of generative AI must be disclosed?
    Required disclosures include substantive assistance with synthetic-data generation, theoretical or conceptual development, mathematical claims or proofs, hypotheses, research methodology, experiments, method implementation, translation, dataset cleaning or reformatting, qualitative analysis, and interpretation of results.
    The CFP also recommends disclosing uses such as brainstorming, literature discovery or summarization, drafting or editing text, creating figures or code, formatting references, and suggesting titles, keywords, or paper structure.

19. Are hidden prompts permitted?
    No. A hidden prompt intended to influence an LLM-based review—for example, instructions embedded in white text, microscopic text, metadata, or images—is scientific misconduct. A paper containing such a prompt may be rejected, including retroactively before publication, and its authors may be reported to the AISTATS board.

20. Will every submission receive an AI review?
    Yes. Every submission will receive an AI-generated review focused on factual correctness. It may identify unsupported claims, proof errors or gaps, inconsistencies in the paper, experimental mismatches, or misattributed related work.
    The AI review will not assess novelty or significance, provide a score, or make an acceptance recommendation.

21. When will the AI review be visible?
    Human reviewers will not see the AI review while writing their initial reviews. It will be released to authors with the human reviews on November 16, 2026. It will become visible to reviewers and area chairs during the discussion phase, together with the authors' response.

22. Does the AI review determine the decision?
    No. Decisions remain with the area chairs, senior area chairs, and program chairs, based on the human reviews and discussion. The AI review is only an additional source of information.

23. How will submission confidentiality be protected?
    The AI-review system will operate under the same confidentiality requirements as the human review process. Submissions will be processed using a privacy-compliant system and will not be used to train models. Further operational details will be published before the submission deadline.

24. Must submissions be anonymized?
    Yes. AISTATS uses double-blind review. Submissions must not include author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, or links from which the authors' identities or institutions can be inferred.

25. How should self-citations be handled?
    Self-citations are allowed if anonymity is preserved. Authors may cite their prior work in the third person, like any other related work. If necessary, a self-citation may be omitted or replaced with “removed for anonymous submission.”

26. May I post the work on arXiv or another preprint server?
    Yes. Preprints and technical reports do not count as prior publication. Authors should use a neutral, non-AISTATS format and must not explicitly identify the preprint as an AISTATS submission during the review period.

27. May I advertise my preprint?
    Authors are strongly encouraged not to advertise a preprint on social media or in the press while it is under review. In all cases, the work must not be explicitly identified as an AISTATS submission before decisions are announced.

28. What counts as a dual submission or prior publication?
    A manuscript must not have been published previously in a journal or conference proceedings and must not be under consideration at another conference during the AISTATS review process.
    Extended abstracts of four pages or fewer submitted to workshops or other non-archival venues without proceedings do not count as concurrent submissions. Technical reports, preprints, and short papers at non-archival workshops do not count as prior publication.

29. How will accepted papers be presented and published?
    All accepted papers will be presented as posters, with a subset also selected for talks. Talk and poster papers are treated equally in the proceedings. Papers will be published in the Proceedings of Machine Learning Research.

30. Must an author attend the conference?
    At least one author of each accepted paper should register and present the work in person. Exceptions may be granted for travel emergencies or visa problems.

31. Is there a journal track?
    Yes. A separate journal track will allow recently published papers from selected journals to be presented as posters. Its eligibility rules and submission process will be announced separately.

32. How can I confidentially report a suspected policy violation?

Reports may be submitted anonymously, although optional contact details can help the program chairs request clarification. Harassment and Code of Conduct matters should use the conference's Code of Conduct reporting channel.
